Jennifer Kampsula Jennifer Kampsula's future as an attorney was cemented before she attended a single college course. She made her decision during a trip to Washington, D.C., where her high-school history class was competing in a national U.S. Constitution contest.
"I liked the public policy and civics atmosphere of D.C.," Jennifer explains. "And I figured if I want to change the laws, I'd better know the laws."
In her tenure at Kell, Alterman & Runstein, Jennifer has applied that knowledge toward a prosperous general litigation, personal injury, and business and employment practice. She's developed a reputation as a communicative, fair-minded lawyer who engages her clients with thoughtful, assertive strategies.
She's also a zealous community advocate, serving as president of the Clark County Board of the American Cancer Society and serving on the board of governors for the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. She travels back to D.C. regularly on behalf of the American Cancer Society, working mostly to promote funding for cancer research.
Jennifer initially considered policy work after earning her J.D. from the University of Washington in 1999, but she received a taste of the courtroom while in Seattle and never turned back. She joined Kell, Alterman & Runstein later in 1999, citing the firm's history of public service in addition to its emphasis on sharing expertise amongst lawyers and its moderate size—"Multiple heads working together," she says, "but not too many heads."
Unlike many of the firm's other lawyers, Jennifer doesn't live in Portland, choosing the serenity of the countryside outside of Vancouver, Washington. She's also admitted to practice in both Oregon and Washington, letting her reach out to clients on both sides of the river.
When she's not litigating or filing briefs, Jennifer spends her time raising Himalayan cats with her mom, flying or driving them to cat shows across the country. She also loves the water, where she's often found paddling along the Willamette River and competing in dragon boat races.
